ARDROSSAN - WANDERERS v ENSIGN
A match was played by these two clubs on Saturday last (23 November 1878) on the ground of the former. The play was very even throughout but at the close, the Ensign were the victors by three goals - and one disputed - to one.

The headline suggests that the game was played in Ardrossan on the ground of the Wanderers, implying that there was a team called Ardrossan Wanderers. There were no other Wanderers in the surrounding towns at that time. Ardrossan Union Football Club was apparently founded in 1878 and played only one reported game.
