ARDROSSAN BENBURB FOOTBALL CLUB 1915-1917
The existence of Ardrossan Benburb is verified by the two medals shown below.
They were presented to Joe Brodie of Benburb, shown below left, for winning one competition held
under the auspices of the Irvine and District Juvenile Football Association - perhaps the League - and the Kemp Cup sponsored by the S
& D J F A. This may have been the Saltcoats and District Juvenile Football
Association and the sponsor could have been Harry Kemp who owned the Regal and
La Scala cinemas in Saltcoats.
The Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald
of 16 May 1958, reporting on the appointment of James Dorrian, shown below
right, as Provost of Ardrossan seven days earlier. stated that 'older members of
the community will remember that he was secretary of the one-time juvenile team,
Ardrossan Benburb, which was in existence for two years during the First World
War'.
